Don't bother with Stebbins Anderson. It is pretentious and over-priced. I have been a casual shopper there over the years and their customer service has never wowed me...but this is a new low.
Dear Setbbin Anderson, I visited your store for the first time in a while, and I have to ask, what has happened to your holiday style? My family always makes a trip to your store because the holiday ornaments and decorations were always so lovely, elegantly displayed and creative. I understand that you downsized, but now it looks worse than a hardware store display of random holiday stuff. Gone is the creativity and elegant display that made us want to buy your ornaments. It makes me wonder if you lost your deaigner when you downsized. Unfortunately this out of towner will not be back. Very disapointed.
My family has been patronizing Stebbins since the 1950s, back when their old Towson lumber yard was next to the Ma & Pa Railroad. The store was downsized in 2016 and is now half the size it was before, with hardware inventory being reduced. But they still offer a great selection of upscale lawn and patio items, etc, and other quality home furnishings that are hard to find elsewhere. In fact, I've bought stuff here for my Florida home that isn't available in the big-box chain stores.
This place used to be great for Christmas... this year it looks like they are going out if business. A big empty room. If this is what we get I won’t waste my time.
RIDICULOUS RETURN POLICY AND POOR CUSTOMER SERVICE: Tried to return a gift on December 28 that was received ON Christmas . We were told by the sales clerk that all sales on Christmas items must have been returned BY December 24 in order to receive a store credit. The item is Christmas-themed only in the fact that it had a scarf in the image. It was purchased during Thanksgiving weekend by the gift-giver according to the date on the gift receipt. The text on the bottom of the receipt reads, "Holiday Returns are at current price." However the clerk, a young girl who says she has worked at Stebbins for 4 years, claims that all customers are told, VERBALLY, about the Christmas item return prohibition (and that this has been the policy the entire time she has worked there). The language on Stebbins' current receipts says "Final Sale on All Holiday Purchases." Clearly there is a difference between the return language on the two receipts. I would not have tried to return the item if the gift receipt had used the current wording. Since all I had was the gift receipt, the store's verbal policy meant nothing to me. I wasn't there and all I have to go on is the receipt. And I don't understand the logic of restricting the return of an item to a time period BEFORE the gift could reasonably be assumed to be given...Christmas Day!
My spouse and I are looking for outdoor patio furniture. Today I went to Stebbins Anderson and Duane helped me. He greeted me promptly, answered my questions, showed me different choices and was very helpful explaining the choices Stebbins had. Excellent service!
