The 2017 youth soccer rec program was a complete disaster. The person running soccer was non-responsive (to phone calls and emails) and not at all prepared for the season's start. Coaches got player lists the day before the season began and were asked to make the rosters and schedules (not a problem if it wasn't done at the eleventh hour). Uniforms were not provided until a few weeks into the season. I use the term "uniforms" loosely though. In other area programs, players will get a jersey, matching shorts, and socks. In this program, the players received only a plain colored tee shirt with Towsontown Rec on the front, no number on the back. I thought this was pretty poor, especially knowing what kids in other programs get.
Some leagues (age groups) did not even get off the ground this season because there were not enough coaches. Since everything was started so late, there was no time to go out and find more volunteers to step in.
Register your children in another program, if at all possible. The organization and level of play in the TTR program is poor. The program is also much smaller than other area programs like LTRC or TRC and after a season like 2017, it'll only get smaller because I can't imagine many people dealing with that then returning in 2018.
Maybe things are better in their travel program but rec soccer was run terribly in 2017.
Play was below the appropriate level for the league I coached in, my son played in a more competitive, talented league last year as a U7 in Towson Rec than he did this year in U8 with Towsontown Rec. There was no standard of play. Some teams used goalies, others didn't. Field sizes varied from game to game. The age group for U8 was much too wide. At the season's start, I had players on my team who were 5.5 years old and others who were over 7.5 years old. It made it difficult for the older kids to get much out of the season since a lot of the other players were so young and unskilled. This was definitely a detriment to the better players in the league, they weren't challenged in a way that helped them improve their skills.
Hi
On top of that, some teams did not receive their tee shirts so they had to provide them for themselves (we were later reimbursed for this by the program though after I pressed the issue with anyone who would listen). This just further speaks to the lack of organization in this program.
These players registered in time and simply didn't get to play this season because TTR couldn't get themselves together in time to give the kids the opportunity to play. Unfortunately, since it all collapsed in the days before the season was to begin, those players weren't able to register to play in a other programs.
