I have 4c hair. The was my very first "Silk Press". So I chose this salon from what I saw in a tutorial on FB. Very nice tutorial. However that wasn't my experience. I've been natural for 6yrs.. I have the most coarse hair you ever wanna meet but it has never been a problem for my other natural hair stylist. For starters my hair was combed from the root with a wig brush-pre silk press. No-No #1. After the blow dry she informs me of several bald spots. Never had bald spots before this. She then proceeded to ask me of my moisturizing regime. No boo.... these spots are due to your lack of knowledge of the 4c... Then without a question she cuts my hair.... never again. In the future I recommend this stylist have a complete consultation with clients and if she can't do the style with ease please don't attempt..
Ora's demeanor was ice cold and passive-aggressive. Just...ugh! After paying her and wishing her a good day, she looked at me in a nasty way and said nothing.
I've been seeing Ora for almost 2 years now. She is the first stylist I saw when I took out my dreads. I was extremely nervous about what to do with my hair but I basically left myself in her hands and she did a wonderful job!! She gave me a beautiful sew in weave. My hair always looks great! I literally receive compliments on a daily basis. I could not be happier with my hair...
Throughout the appointment, she kept asking if I would consider a relaxer. Obviously, no. I'm natural by choice and my hair isn't all that rough! She kept burning my scalp. That's when I began to feel angry, but calmly told her what she had to already know because I would flinch and recoil each time she burned my scalp. Even after telling her, it happened a couple more times. Was it intentional? You decide. That's never happened to me and I've been to countless stylists in my lifetime.
I always have an amazing experience at this salon, very attentive, knowledgable and fast. My hair has grown so much since coming here! I would recommend Pink And Black to anyone looking for amazing hair care.
She showed no concern for the health of my hair and handled it aggressively. I knew halfway through the appointment that I would not be returning to this place. And yes, I do have heat damage and my hair has been breaking off.
If you are natural, please consider other options. You don't want a 2-year natural hair journey to be destroyed in less than an hour.
This was my first time here. I had a wonderful experience at this hair salon. The owner does a wonderful job of multitasking and informing you of whats going on as far as being next in the chair. Wonderful conversation, personable, and great attitude! Will come back for sure.
P.S. Before a representative of the salon replies and says she can find no record of my visit as with previous reviewers....Saying you can't find a customer in your appointment system doesn't make the problem go away. I was definitely there for a silk press earlier this year.
Listen...If you prefer not to style natural hair, say so when a client inquires. It's really that simple.
I should also note that I am a stylist as well. I find Ora to be very pleasant and accommodating. I work in a large salon with lots of support staff. Ora is usually working (hustling) alone. It's difficult to do everything by yourself!! I don't think clients understand all of the things we have to manage on top of actually doing hair. Ora does an awesome job of handling all of this...
